(Looking over at Mary) Can I buy you a drink?
MARY
(Turning to look at Jack) Glass of wine please. (VOICEOVER) I tried my best to play it cool.
Jack goes up to the bar. He returns with a glass of wine and a beer.
JACK
So tell me more about yourself.
MARY
There’s not a lot to say. I want to hear more about this business of yours.
JACK
My business? How do you know about that?
MARY
I know you have a desire to be the richest man in town so I want to know your plan.
JACK
Okay well…
(the whole conversation is not shown on the film-cut to talking about meeting up.)

BETTY
Have you heard about this new criminal in town? Apparently he’s American (raises eyebrow at Mary and smiles) He’s come over here to avoid getting caught for fraud.
MARY
Sounds like we should keep away from him.
BETTY
I don’t think you understand. He’s the richest man in town. If we got hold of this money, we can do so much with it.
MARY
(Thinking) I guess we could.
BETTY
We?! No. You. You are the pretty one. He’ll fall for you in no time.
MARY
How are we going to find him though?
BETTY
You are going to find him in the pub down the road every Thursday at 6.45pm.

JACK
JACK
She just wants my money.
BETTY
No she doesn't.
BETTY
No she doesn't.
JACK
But I want to see you Betty.
BETTY
We can't do this to her.
JACK

MARY
Let me in, it’s freezing out here. (Letting herself in)
JACK
Take a seat (gesturing the sofa).
MARY
So, tell me more about your business.
JACK
Well something’s working (gestures house).
MARY
You must have a lot of cash. Is kept in the same place?
JACK
I’m going to tell you something that I have never told anyone before. I really like you and I trust you.
Look inside that draw.
Mary looks into the draw-she sees a box, looks at Jack, who nods, she takes the box out of the draw.
As she does so, sees a bundle of money in the draw. She types out a text to Betty that tells her where
the money is-shot of phone on the sideboard (undelivered message?).
MARY
(Opening the box from Jack) Wow Jack. This is gorgeous. You didn’t have…

JACK
(Looking confused) Who?

MARY
Don’t do this Betty. I can’t do this to him. It was a bad idea. I like him.
BETTY
You don’t like him. He’s using you. Think what we can do with all this money.
MARY
No he’s not. He will lend us some money if we ask. He likes me Betty.
BETTY
Well, I am leaving with this money whether you are with me or not.
MARY
You can’t do this to me….or him.
BETTY
You don’t even know the man. He doesn’t want you.
MARY
Betty. Put the money down. And leave or…
BETTY
(Pulls a gun from her pocket) Or what? What can you do?
MARY
You wouldn’t dare shoot me. After all I have done for you.
JACK
(Enters with a panicked expression) What’s going on? Who is she? And why does she have a gun?...Is that…my money?
BETTY
You didn’t earn this. We know your little plan/scam/idea.
JACK
Alright. Put the gun down.
